Hello! I am Valerie Thorn, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist (CCBT) practicing with Hidden Wounds Family Therapy. I hold a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Florida Southern College.
I approach counseling from a collaborative, strength-based perspective, rooted in the core belief that the struggles we face in life make us more resilient and foster deep personal growth. Because each day is a new beginning, my goal is to walk alongside you to help heal emotional hurt, build upon your natural strengths, and equip you with practical coping skills when facing sadness, anxiety, or trauma-related stressors. Experience & Professional Background:
Outpatient Clinical Practice: I provide individual and couples therapy, diagnostic assessments, and collaborative treatment planning in person and via telehealth.
Community Mental Health & Crisis Support: My background includes conducting walk-in crisis interventions, clinical mental health assessments, and group therapy for depression, trauma, and parenting skills.
Substance Use Recovery: I have led daily individual and group therapy for women in residential treatment programs working through substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Psychiatric & Behavioral Support: I have delivered direct behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric care for pediatric clients (ages 5–11) and adolescents (ages 12–17) in acute and residential settings. Public Service & Community Foundations: My clinical perspective is enriched by years of public service prior to therapy, including working as a Probation/Parole Officer in North Carolina and Florida, a Corrections Counselor, and a Teacher Assistant in Wake County Public Schools.
